Give And It Will Be Given To You

Give, and it will come back to you, good measure pressed down and shaken together and running over, they shall give into your bosom.

Give And It Will Come Back To You

Give and it will come back to you. There’s a bible verse that used to intrigue me as a new believer. Why? Because preachers only focused on the good side of this scripture.

But I knew also, as I had just come out from a worldly life then, that the case was the same even on the bad side of things. So most people did not get to understand this bad side.

This is the bible verse under discussion:

give and it will come back to you
give and it will come back to you.

Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you shall be forgiven. Give, and it will come back to you, good measure pressed down and shaken together and running over, they shall give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you measure, it shall be measured to you again.
(Luke 6:37-38, MKJV)

Do you see that? Now, what is your reading of that, or let’s say what’s your understanding of that verse?

I know, I know, you are thinking to yourself that it’s not possible to be perfect. Is that true? I don’t think so. You see, as Jesus’ followers we are called to excellence as a way of life. I know we are at different levels in our faith walk. But we must commit to walking the talk of the bible, which includes giving in any form.

We may have areas of our lives falling short of the master’s excellent standard. But we ought to keep working towards attaining excellence. And always have it in mind, give and it will come back to you. In other words, whatever you sow will you also reap, bad or good.

But, I digress. I was supposed to be talking about Luke 6: 37-38, though of course this too is about excellence.

Remember that scripture that talks about the greatest commandment? Yes? Ok, I hear you, here it is:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. The second most important command is this: Love your neighbor the same as you love yourself. These two commands are the most important.” (Mar 12:30-31)

So as we consider the giving that is talked about in Luke 6: 37,38; our reference point must always be the greatest commandment. This I always summarize as, Love God. Love Neighbour”. If this is in our sight always, then the issue of giving is settled. It’s a done deal. You will not have to worry about what to receive as long as you give and it will be given to you in good measure. This must be our work-in-progress and our focus, in this case, will be, ‘give and it will come back to you’.

Let’s cut a long story short. You must be mindful of what you give out always. Consider that it will always come back to you in the same measure as you give it.

For a Jesus follower, what you give out must be of an excellent standard. This is for the sake of the greatest commandment; Love God, love Neighbour.

So, what is being poured into your bosom lately? If you don’t like the returns from your giving, it’s not too late to soberly examine your output. Your output which is your giving will always determine the inflow that is given back to you.

When you get back to giving as per scripture in Mark 12: 30-31; I can assure you without a shadow of a doubt, your bosom will be running over with goodness.
