Today, Be grateful for life
Why should you be grateful for life? Especially today? As I thought about what to include in today\’s blog, a thought struck me that changed the direction of my research on this subject. Actually many people do struggle just to be grateful for life. So, I got even more fired up to write this post.
I found the following snippet on the blog psychology today. Now, I am not a psychologist but this quote right here gave me an even bigger reason to write about being grateful for life.
Studies have linked gratitude with increased satisfaction, motivation, and energy; better sleep and health; and reduced stress and sadness. Grateful people are much more engaged with their environment, leading to greater personal growth and self-acceptance, and stronger feelings of purpose, meaning, and specialness. Why You Should be More Grateful | Psychology Today
I may not have seen the research study out of which came the statement above, but even from a layman\’s view point I will agree that to be grateful for life each day I am alive is something worth practicing.
Developing an attitude of heartfelt and sincere gratitude for all your current blessings unleashes the ultimate power for obtaining many more. Give thanks each day and you will see how being grateful for life can create great changes in your life.
“Thank you” – these two simple words can change one’s life. With the problems that we may face each day in our lives, these two little words are often the most neglected words to use each day. We always see the worst in life that is why we never become truly happy. Be grateful and positive always!
Expressing your gratitude or even being thankful about the things you have is really a good thing to practice constantly. This will change your entire life – the way you see life, the way you handle your problems and the way you cope with the daily challenges.
What\’s this gratitude all about anyway?
Gratitude is all about counting your blessings, thankfulness, acknowledging things that you receive and noticing those simple pleasures in your life. The moment you wake up in the morning, say a little prayer, giving thanks to another life given to you today.
Gratitude means learning to give thanks and being grateful for the many silent miracles you experience everyday. It also means being fully aware continuously about how much you have received into your life.
Gratitude also shifts your focus from the things you lack in life towards great abundance that is now present. It is also good to note that psychological and behavioral research has shown the most amazing improvements in life brought about by the practice of gratitude.
Being thankful and appreciative of life and the things life offers makes you more resilient and even happier. Resilient in the sense that no matter what challenges and difficulties you experience, you know that life is not so cruel as to deal you something that you can’t bear.
To be grateful for life gives us strength and the belief and mindset that no matter how many problems we may encounter, the blessings we receive are much greater than them. Gratitude strengthens relationships, reduces stress and improves health.
Deciding Why To Be Grateful For Life
There are lot\’s of things around us to be grateful for; it’s just a matter of appreciating the blessing you receive and acknowledging how blessed you are for having them. Cultivating a feeling of gratitude actually means taking nothing for granted. It means giving value to whatever you possess.
Practice the attitude of never putting off an action or that word which expresses your gratitude at the right time. Many individuals tend to take for granted the things that are present in their lives.
There is a gratitude exercise which asks to imagine losing a few of the things that you take for granted today. Things like your family, your home, as well as your ability to hear and see, to walk or just anything that is currently giving you comfort.
Imagine losing them and then again imagine that you are getting each of them back every day. Think how grateful you would be when it happens and when each one is given back to you.
Decide today, be grateful for life
Starting today, begin to see happiness even in those small things you possess rather than holding out for great and big achievements like getting a job promotion, having a baby or getting married. When you decide to be grateful for life, you will begin to see that there are a lot of things to be grateful for everyday.
When you wake up each morning, be thankful for the goodness of yet another great day ahead of you. Your happiness always depends on how you view life itself and how you see your life today. If you begin to think that there are much more things to be grateful for, you will see how happy your life will transform into.
If you want to fully appreciate life and your existence, you have to be really mindful about even those little things around you. A butterfly that flies around you will make you feel good. The food on your table, your good health – these things might be very simple to you, but if you begin to acknowledge them as blessings, your life will become happier.
So decide today, use gratitude to guide your focus in putting things in their right perspective. If everything around you seems wrong, and if things do not go the way you want them to be, bear in mind that in every problem and difficulty, is an opportunity to rejoice and be grateful. Every challenge or problem carries within it the seed for a greater benefit potential.
When you are facing any challenge in your life and even when you are in the face of great adversity, just ask yourself, \”what\’s the worst that could happen\”? And immediately begin to think about the good things that you could get from that problem or adversity. You are created for greatness so see yourself deriving great benefit from every such situation.
When you decide to appreciate life and even the small things that may happen to you, you also begin to create a life of happiness, harmony, contentment and bliss. If you are experiencing a difficult situation, never think of it as a burden or a punishment. So be renewed in your mind. Gratefully you have decided to walk in gratitude. That\’s great. You are awesome!
I leave you with this Bible verse for you to meditate upon.
My friends, consider yourselves fortunate when all kinds of trials come your way, for you know that when your faith succeeds in facing such trials, the result is the ability to endure.
(James 1:2-3)
