Forgiveness Is The Key To Your Peace

Anger, bitterness and such offenses could lead to revenge but without bringing us true peace. But forgiveness assures us of peace and comfort to grow our lives.

Why Forgiveness Is Important

In the many years of my christian walk, I have heard so many times preachers delivering sermons on \’forgiveness is the key to God\’s power\’. And based on these teachings, I have had to contend with a very critical forgiveness situation in my past. It was a very hard \’forgive and forget\’ moment of my life, but I had no choice but to bite the bullet of forgiveness.

But do you know why forgiveness is important? I found this article on an authority site and thought perhaps it would help to learn about the importance of forgiveness. Follow the link and read through.

Lack of forgiveness blocks access to the kingdom and to miracle power.

People must forgive all who need forgiveness. If the first person to forgive is yourself, you need to say, \”God, before You, I forgive myself. Whatever I have done, I accept Your forgiveness, and I forgive me.\” That\’s a very simple but profound statement, because as long as we feel that we are under condemnation, we will never have faith to see miracles.

I also have a Related post on forgiveness that you may find interesting.

Human beings by nature are more biased towards revenge rather than forgiveness. For Christians there\’s a part in the bible which talks about such revenge, such as, \’an eye for an eye\’. I also know that some religions dish out such vengeful punitive punishments in the name of justice.

For the christian believer forgiveness is the foundation of the faith. Jesus came to establish a new world order based purely on love and forgiveness. In one of the scriptures he is quoted as follows:

In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can\’t get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God\’s part.

Mathew 6: 14-15

When Forgiveness Happens

When forgiveness happens both parties are restored to a position of freedom. Reconciliation happens. Once again each of the people involved can set aside the past and move on with their lives. In a lot of instances lives have been messed up.

When you forgive, you allow yourself to move on with your life and live in the now as opposed to constantly reminding yourself about an incident that happened in the past. You get to deal with that bitterness once and for all.

It\’s important to understand that forgiveness sets you free. It\’s part of a very important attribute of growth in the faith as a christian believer. It does help with the healing process. It helps in letting go of that moment of bitterness that was a dent in your past. Now you can move on to other greater things in your life.

What Forgiveness is

For me this scripture quote here puts it pretty well. Looks tough eh? But if you are not ready to do this, it means that you are not yet ready to forgive, reconcile and move on with your life.

“This is how I want you to conduct yourself in these matters. If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then and only then, come back and work things out with God\”.

Matthew 5: 23-24, MSG

Have you noticed something outstanding in that scripture? You are asked to take the first step to make peace. Meaning that even if you are the victim in the offense, be the first to make a move towards reconciliation. You will reap the greater benefits.

Blessed are the peace makers for they shall be called the children of God.

Finally, what issues are you struggling with from your past. Is it anger or bitterness. Whatever it may be, it\’s weighing you down unnecessarily. Jesus says, \”come to me all you who are burdened and get comfort\”. There\’s much more to life than walking around with heavy stones of anger and bitterness around your neck.

Make a choice now to move on into your greatness. What would you rather do? Forgive and be at peace. Or don\’t forgive and forever be at pain from a past which holds you back? When you choose to forgive you are choosing a life of happiness peace and progress.
