Is your life purpose really greater than your past?
One day I saw a picture of a big dog fighting a much smaller dog. And from the look of things as I gazed at that picture, I got the impression that it was the little guy who seemed to take the fight to the bigger dog. What caught more of my attention was the caption below.:
“It\’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.”
great saying
Wow! That caption has stayed with me for years. What is the size of your fight? Are you still allowing the seemingly big past to continue bullying you? Inside of you my friend is the equivalent of that small dog ready to take that fight to that big past.
To encourage you I found this article which is really part of a reading plan I recently subscribed to. Take a look here:
Many of us have been there: broken, hurting, full of sorrow, ashamed. The list goes on. But out of this place God longs to restore and redeem us, regardless of our past. This journey will bring you from a place of questioning your future to one of hopeful purpose!
I’ve been to the bottom, looking up to find some glimmer of hope. Broken, beaten, ashamed, and confused, reeling from the mistakes I’ve made that brought me to such a low point. I’ve been there even after dedicating my life to Christ. Maybe you have too. In fact, I bet most reading this can relate to such a place.
You lost all your money from a gambling addiction and now face bankruptcy. You skimmed a bit of money off the top at work and now people are noticing. You entered into an emotional affair with someone from your past while married. The stories and circumstances are endless, but you are not.
Having been lifted out of the grim, wiped clean, and given new hope, I know it’s possible. And after experiencing what I have, I know it’s possible for anyone.
When I think of someone who hit a point where all hope was lost I think of Ruth. She was from a corrupted and sinful country where people were considered too far to ever be accepted by God. She lost her husband before conceiving a child, which in that time was considered a very unfavorable situation. She would travel to an unknown land where she knew no one but her bitter mother-in-law and although she pursued righteousness, she made her fair share of mistakes.
The great thing about Ruth’s story is that it didn’t end in the midst of her trial. We have the fortunate advantage to look at her story from a thirty thousand foot perspective and see the fingerprints of God all over her life. One day we too will see them on our own life and that’s hope for today!

But what am I really bringing to you today? It\’s to re-emphasize that you cannot allow your past to dictate to you. Your life purpose awaits you. Right now your future is bright. Why not allow the one who created you to restore you once again to your glorious life purpose.
Life challenges and life obstacles come into our lives to exercise our determination to face the future. Get into your fight today for a better tomorrow.
It\’s like walking on an unknown path whose gradient you are not familiar with. And as you walk on, you begin to feel a strain in your legs as you reach an incline and your walk gets strenuous. But if this is a path taking you to your new home, you have no option but to keep going till you get home. If you do this over and over again, eventually you get used to the terrain. And no more strain.
The same is true of life. When you learn to deal with your life obstacles, your inner man gets accustomed to taking on the fight. You begin to fight a good fight. Overtime you become more than a conqueror!
So today my friend, be like that small dog with a big fight in you. You can lick that big dog called your past. It is no match for you. Why? Because it\’s only in your past. It\’s gone. It ain\’t coming back. So just leave it behind. Put on your imagination and see your future in your life purpose. It\’s waiting for you. See you at the top! You are a winner.
