This Week\’s Prayer Scripture: In Your Righteousness, Lead Me, O Lord
For the choir director; for flutes; a psalm by David.
If you have read the life of King David in the Bible, you will observe that to a large degree David spent a major part of his life time building a personal relationship with his God.
He spent most of his time in praise and worship and prayer, exalting the Lord. It\’s one of the reasons that many people enjoy king David\’s psalms.
You can\’t help but notice his spiritual life revolved around ensuring that he was upright in the sight of God.
So this week I have chosen Psalm 5 for our prayer. That we too can pray, in your righteousness lead me o lord.
So let\’s pray together shall we?
Psalms 5:1-12
- Listen to my words, O LORD, and hear my sighs.
- Listen to my cry for help, my God and king! I pray to you, O LORD;
- you hear my voice in the morning; at sunrise I offer my prayer and wait for your answer.
- You are not a God who is pleased with wrongdoing; you allow no evil in your presence.
- You cannot stand the sight of the proud; you hate all wicked people.
- You destroy all liars and despise violent, deceitful people. B
- But because of your great love I can come into your house; I can worship in your holy Temple and bow down to you in reverence.
- LORD, I have so many enemies! Lead me to do your will; make your way plain for me to follow.
- What my enemies say can never be trusted; they only want to destroy. Their words are flattering and smooth, but full of deadly deceit.
- Condemn and punish them, O God; may their own plots cause their ruin. Drive them out of your presence because of their many sins and their rebellion against you.
- But all who find safety in you will rejoice; they can always sing for joy. Protect those who love you; because of you they are truly happy.
- You bless those who obey you, LORD; your love protects them like a shield.
And now Father God, I thank you for the opportunity to pray David\’s song as laid out in Psalm 5.
I now ask that for everyone who prays to be led in righteousness this week you have already opened your ears to answer.
Thank you father God for your goodness, love and mercy. In Jesus name we have prayed. So it is, and it is done.
Now that we have prayed, what are your thoughts on this psalm? What do you think of David\’s life of praise and worship especially his pursuit for righteousness?
In our today\’s Christian walk with God, Paul writes in the following scripture;
\”For He has made Him who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him\”. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
For those who may not know, this scripture is referring to Jesus taking up our sin and being nailed to the cross so that those who accept this work of the cross may be made righteous.
As David was after God\’s own heart, we too ought to follow his example of pursuing a relationship with God but now in Christ Jesus.
In our time it has been made a lot easier as Jesus is our go-between. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and savior , righteousness is automatically imputed to you. Have you already said yes to Jesus? Let me know.
That\’s it for this week. Let me hear from you. Post your comments below.
